Milford Memorial Day ceremony to be held May 30

May 1, 2022

The Milford Veterans Affairs Committee announced a Memorial Day ceremony is set for 10 a.m., Monday, May 30, indoors at the Milford Senior Center, with plenty of seating. More than 300 people regularly attend.

The Milford Community Band will play patriotic music, and Milford Mayor Archie Campbell will give welcoming remarks.

This year's keynote speaker is Maj. Gen. Michael Berry, adjutant general of the Delaware National Guard.

As with many Memorial Day events, a veteran from each of the five military services will place a memorial flower on the remembrance wreath.

Delaware Rep. Bryan Shupe, R-Milford, Rep. Charles Postles, R-Milford, and Sen. Dave Wilson, R-Bridgeville, will share reflections on what Memorial Day means to them.

Charles Garrod, a Korean War veteran, is serving his fifth year as ceremony chair. Garrod also has served as the Delaware Department commander of the Korean War Veterans Association.

A Boy Scout Troop will be participating; and the Milford VFW Post 6483 will provide a 21-gun salute. A few uniquely Milford touches also will be seen in the ceremony.

Invitations are extended to everyone who wishes to participate in this most serious remembrance ceremony. All veterans in the area are invited to attend, recall their military service, and honor the memories of the men and women who gave their all in America's never-ending fight for peace and justice for all people.
