West Point Society of Delmarva to hold Founders Day celebration March 18
The West Point Society of Delmarva, an organization of graduates, parents and friends of the U.S. Military Academy, will hold its annual Founders Day celebration at noon, Sunday, March 18, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1706 North Dupont Highway in Dover.
The occasion marks the 210th anniversary of the academy’s establishment on the site of an important Revolutionary War fort on New York’s Hudson River. As a premier leader development institution, West Point develops young men and women intellectually, physically, militarily, ethically, spiritually and socially. The student body numbers 4,400 and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate with bachelor of science degrees and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
This year’s guest speaker, Col. Todd Browne, is the director of Academy Advancement in the superintendent’s office at West Point. A 1985 U.S. Military Academy graduate commissioned in field artillery, Browne also holds an MBA degree from Cornell. He has served in several financial management positions in the U.S. and Europe, and in the admissions office and social sciences department at West Point. Following tradition for these events, attendees will also hear from the oldest and youngest graduates present.
The luncheon’s cost is $30 per person. Email arjanairo@aol.com or call 302-545-5454 by Thursday, March 8, for reservations and further details.
