The Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation, dedicated to preserving the historic lighthouses of the Delaware River and Bay, found fair enough weather Oct. 8 for a work trip to the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse.
More than 20 volunteers were able to accomplish most of the needed work including painting, cleaning and making repairs to the lighthouse. Due to high winds and surf, the dock was not accessible for recoating, but the lighthouse was buttoned up for the winter.
The next work trip will be scheduled for late spring 2023.
It takes great effort to keep the foundation operating, and over the past 20 years, Red Moulinier, president emeritus, has given generously of his time to coordinate the restoration work.
Help is needed all around to preserve the maritime history of Delaware. The foundation is in need of volunteers to handle website assistance, grant writing and general support activities.
To volunteer, email Red at sunnyshots@msn.com. To work on the lighthouse, volunteers must also be foundation members.

The foundation team thanks all its hardworking volunteers and continuing supporters.
