On behalf of our entire membership at American Legion Post 17/Unit 17 family in Lewes, we pridefully ask our community to once again take a moment on Wednesday, March 29, to place your hand over your heart, look at an American flag and give thanks to our Vietnam-era veterans for their service.
March 29 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of this conflict. Many still carry the scars of the physical, practical and emotional injuries related to the uniform they wore. There are many others, like myself, who still wish to say, “I’m sorry.” I was a war protestor in the late 1960s. The media and those around us did not speak enough about the soldiers of this war. That is why we try to serve them now. We continue to put voice to how important it is to care for all veterans.
On this date, pause and remember just for a while the sacrifices these individuals made. Remember when we at Post 17 brought the Vietnam veterans’ Moving Wall to the Lewes Ferry Terminal. We came together to honor and pay tribute to all who were lost. We always fly the POW/MIA Flag at Post 17.
Make a contribution to our American Legion Post 17 to ensure that this local place can continue to serve and support the fellowship and friendship our veterans need. Our Vietnam veterans are our husbands, neighbors and community friends, so we want all of them to know we are thinking of them. We salute them and thank them, one and all.
Come by Post 17 on Wednesday, March 29, and thank a Vietnam veteran in person.
