Browseabout Books announces June author events

June 4, 2023

Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach announced its upcoming author signings in June.

Author and veteran Philadelphia crime scene investigator Donna Jaconi will be signing her book “Out of the Darkness” from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 11, at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Jaconi takes readers along while processing some of the most notorious crime scenes in Philadelphia. From growing up poor in an Italian south Philly neighborhood, to becoming a decorated police officer, Jaconi shares the joys and sorrows associated with her career, her relationships and coming out as a gay female officer.

Mike Lambert will sign copies of “Eastern Shore League: Extra Innings (Images of Baseball)” from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 17. Eastern Shore baseball fans watched over three eras of class D professional baseball for 15 years, from 1922 to 1949. Many players, such as Don Zimmer, Mickey Cochrane, Red Ruffing and Sid Gordon, came through the ESL on their way to the major leagues. Many who played and managed in the ESL were former major-league players, including Gene Corbett, Ducky Detweiler, Val Picinich and Joe Becker, to name a few.

Meg Geisewite will be signing her book, “Intoxicating Lies: One Woman’s Journey to Freedom from Gray Area Drinking,” from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 24. Most people think in order to acknowledge and address a drinking problem, one must first hit rock bottom, but this heartfelt story reveals the truth that gray-area drinking comes in many shades. “Intoxicating Lies” shows readers the relatable story of one mom’s journey to freedom ― not only from gray area drinking but also from the shame and guilt that crushed her sense of worth and inner knowing. This book uncovers surprising insights into the alcohol industry and society’s obsession with the mommy wine culture.

W.A. Simpson will sign copies of her newest novel “Tarotmancer” from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 25. Following “Tinderbox,” the acclaimed first title in The Tales of the Riven Isles, the story of magic and revenge continues with “Tarotmancer.” Harper holds the gift of divination. Red is the infamous Reynard the Fox, a fugitive shapeshifter. When his past finds him, Red is taken to the Kingdom of Vale within Underneath so he can pay for his crimes, and Harper is taken as a hostage. With the Rot drawing on the hatred of the citizens, including Harper, she realizes she must put her feelings aside and save Red from the punishment of the Cesspit. As the Rot continues to grow, all must take control of their emotions and join to protect Vale.

Closing out the month, author Laura Black will sign copies of her memoir “Climbing Down the Ladder: A Journey to a Different Kind of Happy,” from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 29. Growing up in image-conscious Miami, Black, with her double chins, frizzy hair and inability to squeeze into regular-sized clothing, climbed out of shame by focusing on brains rather than beauty, becoming a child entrepreneur and rising all the way to the top ranks of business. Her ascent up the ladder as a mother of three forced her to make often-painful choices as she navigated the myth of having it all.

Yet she climbed those rungs with quantifiable goals measured by market-share and profitability. In stark contrast, when she chose to end her career, her descent was marked by loss and marginalization. She no longer possessed CEO status, her children fled the nest for lives of their own, and she had to cope with the decline and eventual deaths of her parents. She also had to come to terms with aging and a life-altering, near-death experience, while searching for relevance and purpose.

These are free events and tickets are not required.
