Dewey Beach municipal election canceled

Incumbents Bauer, Gibbings, Jasinski unopposed by filing deadline, certified for two-year terms each
August 29, 2023

For the third straight year, a municipal election will not be held in Dewey Beach, as no one but incumbents Paul Bauer, Elisabeth Gibbings and David Jasinski filed for commissioner seats by the deadline.

One minute after the Aug. 24 filing deadline, town election officials certified via town charter that the incumbents are deemed elected for a full two-year term each. The election had been set for Saturday, Sept. 23.

Bauer, Gibbings and Jasinski all ran unopposed in 2021 as well. First elected in 2017, Bauer has served as a council secretary for five years. He is commissioner liaison to the budget and finance committee, and the marketing committee.

Gibbings first ran in 2021 and is liaison to the investment committee. Jasinski filed for his first term in 2021 after serving partial terms in 2020-21 and 2014-15. He serves as liaison to the infrastructure committee.

Commissioners-elect will be sworn in for their new two-year terms at the town’s organizational meeting this fall. Go to townofdeweybeach.com for more information.
