Rehoboth workshop set for Sept. 5
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a workshop at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda includes presentations on the minimum number of parking spaces required for certain uses and on acceptable materials for driveways, walkways, sidewalks and natural areas.
Also included are discussions on a proposed amendment to the city’s ordinance related to canopy and marquee signs, appointment of a chair for the Stormwater Utility Task Force, and awarding contracts for the city’s annual water meter replacement program and its LED retrofit project on Rehoboth Avenue. Special Rehoboth meeting Sept. 5
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the city hall meeting room next to the commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for an executive session related to preliminary discussions on the sale or lease of real property, and for the purpose of discussing the content of documents excluded from the definition of "public record" under the Freedom of Information Act.

Lane closures on Route 1 start Sept. 5
There will be lane closures on Route 1 between Route 24 and Old Landing Road from Tuesday, Sept. 5, through late November for intersection improvements.
Work will include extending the Route 1 southbound U-turn lane approaching Old Landing Road and removing one of two Route 1 northbound left-turn lanes approaching Rehoboth Mall Boulevard, along with reconstruction of the concrete median and storm drains.
Motorists can expect Route 1 in that area to be reduced from three lanes to two as well as an Old Landing Road single-left-turn lane closure from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., Monday through Friday, during the work period.
Detour will be placed on Robinsonville Road
Robinsonville Road at the Plantation Road intersection will be closed for one month beginning Monday, Sept. 11. During this time, there will be no access to Plantation Road from Robinsonville Road, and motorists will need to use Cedar Grove Road as a detour.
This work is part of the ongoing Plantation Road improvement project, and the work includes the realignment of Robinsonville Road at Plantation Road. Travel on Plantation Road will not be impacted by this work.
Following the completion of this work in October, Plantation Road will close to all traffic from Shady Road to west of Salt Marsh Boulevard, including access to the Route 9 intersection, until May 2024 when the new roundabout will open.
Lewes-Georgetown Trail section closing
The Lewes-Georgetown Trail from Fisher Road to Savannah Road will be closed from 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, until 5 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6 for a herbicide application to control weed growth. The rain date is from 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, until 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7. Delaware Department of Transportation and its contractor only apply herbicides registered by the EPA for vegetation control purposes.
The EPA has determined through its testing and review process that when these herbicides are applied according to the label instructions, their application "poses no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife or the environment.”
Sussex council awards nonprofit grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following grants during its Aug. 29 meeting: $1,500 to Friends of Cape state park for its borrow-a-bike program; $1,000 to Rehoboth Concert Band for its concert season; $1,625 to Urban Youth Golf Program for expansion to Sussex Academy and Sussex Consortium (including a $1,000 countywide youth grant); $500 to Delaware Seaside Railroad Club Inc. for its Georgetown library holiday display; $1,200 to Coverdale Outreach Mission Inc. for back-to-school supplies; and $1,000 to West Rehoboth Community Land Trust for its low-income housing program.
