Mediation training to begin Oct. 26

September 28, 2023

The Center for Community Justice is offering a four-day basic mediation training that will provide the groundwork for everyone interested in becoming a mediator, or enhancing their conflict resolution skills.

Sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Oct. 26 and 27, and Nov. 2 and 3, at the Milford Wellness Village, 200 Kings Highway, Milford.

The costs, which include all training materials, and also continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages each day are: $100 for individuals who commit to volunteering as mediators with the Center for Community Justice; $200 for individuals currently employed by a nonprofit agency, school district, college or university, police department or governmental agency; and $250 for individuals who attend for their own professional or personal enrichment. And those interested in providing their community with a voice and empowerment for all involved in the resolution of community issues.

Attendees will be trained in conflict resolution and negotiation, and how to assist those involved in a dispute to effectively communicate with each other in order to develop a mutual agreement that will resolve the current dispute and reduce the likelihood of a similar situation occurring again in the future.

Through group discussions, hands-on exercises and role-play, attendees will learn, practice and manage the entire mediation process, including the opening and closing statements, exchange of thoughts and ideas between parties, how to identify and ask appropriate questions that will effectively guide the parties to successful establishment of an agreement, and writing the terms of agreement.

To register, contact Keith Kaufman at 302-424-0890, Ext. 4, or email kkaufman@peoplesplace2.com.
