Parrot Heads to host 15th Annual Boat Drinks Bacchanal May 19

May 4, 2012

The Delaware Seashore Parrot Head Club will host its 15th Annual Boat Drinks Bacchanal event from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Saturday May 19, at Northbeach Restaurant and Bayside Bar in Dewey Beach. This event is the Parrot Head’s largest fundraising event of the year and will benefit two local charitable organizations.

One of the beneficiaries is the Sussex County Chapter of the Cancer Support Community (CSC) on John J. Williams Highway. It is the local affiliate of an international nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer. CSC offers a menu of personalized services and education for all people affected by cancer. Its global network brings the highest quality cancer support to the millions of people touched by cancer. Their support services are available through a network of professionally-led community-based centers, hospitals and community oncology practices and online.

The other beneficiary is the Friends of Cape Henlopen Park (FCSP) playground project. This group is a private, nonprofit, member-supported organization working cooperatively with the Division of Parks and Recreation and staff of Cape Henlopen State Park. Some of the activities FCSP supports are borrow-a-bike, monthly trails days, Richard and Mirth Thatcher Education Fund, park beautification and the osprey cam.

The entertainment will be provided by the premier tropical rock party band, Jimmy and the Parrots. DESPHC has hosted them for their Tropical Icebreaker event and are thrilled to have them playing at Boat Drinks Bacchanal. Jimmy and the Parrots have been playing to delighted crowds for over 10 years. The band has performed at the annual Meeting of the Minds Parrot Head conventions in Key West, Fla., as well as well-known Key West venues such as Schooner Wharf, Sloppy Joes, The Rum Barrel, and Rick's Cafe. Additionally, the band has rocked the original Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Café stage on Duval Street several times to rave reviews.

One of the most requested Jimmy Buffett cover bands in the country, Jimmy and the Parrots perform all the great Buffett songs; they also play new and classic rock ‘n roll, as well as outstanding original songs written by lead singer/guitarist Jimmy Maraventano.

Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 day of the event and include an open bar. To purchase send a SASE to DSPHC; PO Box 273; Nassau, DE 19969. In person they may be purchased from Lorie Connor at the Gold Leaf Best Western in Dewey Beach.
