Milton-area students win fire prevention contest awards

Delmarva Christian, Milton and H.O.B. elementaries, Mariner Middle represented

Milton-area students were recognized for their award-winning posters and essays in the Milton Fire Department’s fire prevention contest award ceremony Jan. 10.

Fire Chief Johnny Hopkins said contest packets are distributed to all schools within the Milton fire district. Home schools are also eligible to participate, he said. 

Students from Delmarva Christian, H.O. Brittingham and Milton elementary schools, and Mariner Middle School entered the poster and essay contest, he said, and 60 students were recognized with awards.

All students who earned first, second and third prizes received a medal and $7 gift card to McDonald’s or Chick-fil-A from the Milton Fire Department.

The work of several students was also sent to the county-level competition, Hopkins said. Of those, Milton Elementary first-grader Madison Adams won second place and Mariner Middle seventh-grader Christopher Dunson won first. Madison received an additional $50 Walmart gift card.

Christopher’s work was subsequently submitted to the state competition, where he placed first. As such, Christopher received an additional $100 from the Milton Fire Department and a plaque and $100 from the state, Hopkins said.

Delmarva Christian first-place award-winning students include Daisy Shores, kindergarten; Sofia Steimokaitis, second grade; Louisa Miller, third grade; Gavin Le, fourth grade; and Margot Eden, fifth grade. Gavin’s work was also entered into the county contest, so he received an additional $25 Walmart gift card from the county.

Second-place winners are William Adkins, kindergarten; Savannah States, second grade; Jacob Smith, third grade; Christian Mailey, fourth grade; and Claire Gipko, fifth grade.

Third-place winners are Blake Baker, kindergarten; Finley States, second grade; Elena Shockley, third grade; Lexi Miranda, fourth grade; and Simon Long, fifth grade.

Milton Elementary School first-place students are Killian Halloran, kindergarten; Madison Adams, first grade; Olivia Sun, second grade; and Bryn Sweeten, third grade. Olivia’s work was also entered into the county contest, earning an additional $25 gift card.

Second-place winners are Elise Sarik, kindergarten; Tyson Macaluso, first grade; Grace Amis, second grade; and Matthew Haag, third grade.

Third-place winners are Dorothy Gardoski, kindergarten; Julianna Turansky, first grade; Fiona Esposito, second grade; and Ava Robert, third grade.

H.O. Brittingham Elementary School students earning first place are Delaney White, kindergarten; Mason Nibblett, special category, kindergarten; Savannah Lee, first grade; Renato Diaz-Ortiz, special category, first grade; Maymi Boyer, second grade; Aariona Wolff, third grade; Hunter Kreuger, special category, third grade; Dylan Ball, fourth grade; Anthony Rolon, special category, fourth grade; Ava Garrahan, fifth grade; and Kameron Vogt, special category, fifth grade. 

The works of Delaney White, Mason Nibblett, Renato Diaz-Ortiz, Aariona Wolf, Hunter Kreuger, Anthony Rolon, Ava Garrahan and Kameron Vogt were also sent to the county, earning each student an additional $25 gift card.

Second-place winners are Iva Smith, kindergarten; Brooklyn Marker, special category, kindergarten; Lilliana Wells, first grade; Harrison Lewis, special category, first grade; Ava New, second grade; Sam Robertson, third grade; Reyna Rios-Morales, special category, third grade; Genesis Calderon-Melendez, fourth grade; Kenzie Pickett, special category, fourth grade; Portia Bowden, fifth grade; and Kalum Lazarus, special category, fifth grade.

Third-place winners are Brady Johnson, kindergarten; Joshua D’Angelo, special category, kindergarten; Harper Sipple, first grade; Aven Subrick, special category, first grade; Cora Hildebrandt, second grade; Samantha Campo-McCafferty, third grade; Leila Garrido-Castro, fourth grade; and Amani Johnson, fifth grade.

At Mariner Middle, Christopher Dunson won first place for the school contest, and first place in the county and state contests. Mariner Middle students Jaylin Tingle earned second place and Cullen Oliver earned third.
