Solar panels to reduce Georgetown library’s carbon footprint

June 26, 2024

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Georgetown Public Library has installed state-of-the-art solar panels on its roof.

The solar panels will significantly reduce the building's carbon footprint while also providing clean, renewable energy to power its operations. The Georgetown facility is one of the early adopters of solar power at libraries in Delaware.

“Libraries are a cornerstone of our communities, and we are excited to partner with the Georgetown library in their commitment to sustainability. By utilizing renewable energy on-site, they will reduce their utility bills, which will provide the opportunity to further expand program opportunities for the community,” said Drew Slater, executive director of Energize Delaware.

"We are excited to introduce these innovative solar panels as a key component of our sustainability initiatives," said Rachel Culver, Georgetown Public Library director. "This project reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility and demonstrates our dedication to creating a more sustainable and resilient community."

The solar panels were installed by Paradise Energy Solutions team members. Their expertise and technology have ensured a seamless integration of solar power into the library's infrastructure.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to help the Georgetown library invest in solar energy,” said Brad Fox of Paradise Energy Solutions. “The 200-plus solar panels will cover over 50% of the library's electricity usage, offsetting a significant expense and helping them focus their budget on the things that matter most to their mission. The system's environmental impact is also significant. It is projected to produce 120,023 kWh a year, which is equivalent to the yearly energy usage of 10 homes. This is enough to offset 93.3 tons of CO2 or 196.8 barrels of oil annually."
