May 21, 2025

Walter “Walt” Stewart Petzold, 90, formerly of Scranton, Pa., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Lewes. He leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to family and community.

A proud graduate of Penn State University, Walt served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he built a successful career as an estimator and salesman, known for his integrity and professionalism.

Walt was an active and valued member of his community. As a former treasurer of the Midway Lions Club, he gave his time and talents in service to others, embodying the club’s mission of compassion and civic responsibility.

An avid collector of stamps and coins, Walt also had a lifelong love of history, which he explored through an ever-growing personal library. His intellectual curiosity and appreciation for the past enriched his conversations and inspired those around him.

Walt’s greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann Marie; his son, Steve Petzold; daughter-in-law, Bridget; his cherished grandson, Jack (Wesley), and Jack’s daughters Ellie and Josie; and his beloved granddaughter, Lilly. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter; his parents, Walter and Madeline Petzold; and his brother, Pete.

Walt will be remembered as a kind-hearted man whose warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength touched all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Walt’s memory to a local Lions Club or a charity of choice.
