Jenkin Lester Davis, man of faith, service
Jenkin Lester Davis, 87, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Born Oct. 17, 1937, in Hazleton, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (Morgan) Davis. He was a 1955 graduate of Williamsport High School, where he played trumpet, drum, and bugle in the school’s drum corps and marching band, and sang in both the choir and local church choirs, passions he continued throughout his life.
In 1958, Jenkin graduated from the Albert Einstein School of Radiology in Philadelphia, Pa. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-63, continuing in the Naval Reserve until 1965. He went on to work as a radiology technologist and later as chief radiologic technologist at several hospitals in Pennsylvania. His professional journey eventually led him into medical sales, working for Pennsylvania X-Ray Corporation and later for GE Medical Systems. In 1989, he and his wife moved to Florida, where he continued to enjoy weekly golf and retired from GE in 1994. In 2017, they relocated to Milton.
A devoted man of faith, Jenkin was active in several churches throughout his life, including Brookhaven Baptist Church and Marcus Hook Baptist Church in Pennsylvania, Christ Fellowship Bible Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Eagle’s Nest Church in Milton. He also served as a board member of The Christian Academy in Media, Pa., for 12 years.
Even in retirement, he remained dedicated to service, volunteering and later working part time as a cashier at Sussex County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Georgetown, a role he held until his passing.
Jenkin was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and cherished time spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his steady faith, generous spirit, and deep love for music and service.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Beverly M. Davis, whom he married in 1959; his daughters, Gayle P. Jones (Dennis) of Milton, and Lynda J. Lopes (Jack) of Hickory, N.C.; his grandchildren, Rebecca Miller (Justin) of Virginia, Anakristen Scurti (Dominic) of Delaware, Joshua Gamble of Ohio, DJ Jones (Olivia) of Virginia, and Caleb Gamble (Cassandra) of Florida; and his great-grandchildren, Jonah Miller of Virginia, Emelia Scurti and Mirabelle Scurti of Delaware, and Paislee Gamble of Florida.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, at Eagle’s Nest Fellowship Church, 26633 Zion Church Road, Milton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jenkin’s honor to Sussex County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Georgetown, sussexcountyhabitat.org/restore; or Eagle’s Nest Church, 26633 Zion Church Road, Milton, DE 19968.
