Because I am old, have no off-street parking and possess a Delaware handicap placard, I qualify for participation in the new mobility-based parking pilot program in Lewes. On Sept. 18, with the assistance of my wonderful neighbor, Emory Bevill, the completed application was delivered to city hall. The next morning, Police Chief Tom Spell and two city employees were on the front curb of my home assessing the compliance of my application. Since compliance was evident, they told me that my personal parking place would be yellow-lined the following week. That happened in the early morning hours of Sept. 24. The whole process was completed in less than a week!
I commend the compassionate and innovative spirit of Mayor Amy Marasco and Councilman Joe Elder for spearheading this effort for the comfort and mobility of some of Lewes’ older residents. Thank you!
