Milton water main project moves to Atlantic Street

Work was approved in 2024 referendum
October 3, 2025

Milton residents near Atlantic and Chestnut streets experienced water outages Sept. 30, as part of the town’s ongoing $1.78 million water main replacement project.

The outage lasted about four hours and covered the area from the intersection of Chestnut and Atlantic streets through the 300 block of Atlantic Street.

Work on the project began in July; Town Manager Kristy Rogers said she expects the project to be completed in November. She said Mill Street is the last street to be completed for the actual water mains. The rest of the project will consist of replacing the roadway. The town’s contract with Teal Construction is for 210 days, or a bit more than six months for the work to be complete.

The town is replacing 3,900 linear feet of existing mains underneath Carey, Walnut, Magnolia, Reed and Mill streets. The project includes replacing valves, abandoning the existing mains and repaving the roadway. At Walnut and Mill streets, the town is going to an 8-inch main, while at Carey Street, the upgrade will be from a 2-inch main to a 6-inch main.

Work along and around Mill Street began in early September when the road was milled to prepare to put the new mains underneath.

Voters approved a January 2024 referendum that allowed town officials to borrow state funds for three projects: the water main replacement, a new 500,000-gallon water tower on town-owned land on Federal Street next to the Rails to Trails, and upgrades to the Chandler Street pump station. Terms of the loans are for 20 years at a 2% interest rate, with interest-only payments during construction.
