Sussex Academy students, teachers hold Chips for Charity

November 27, 2025

Students and teachers at Sussex Academy at Georgetown organized Chips for Charity Nov. 7, allowing fellow classmates to purchase a plate of nacho chips with proceeds going to help the family of Tanya Garcia, a Sussex Academy student who died from cancer in September.

Kaylie Pederson, a student who helped organize the event, said it was a collaboration between the school’s Leo Club and Scrub Club to help Garcia’s family pay for hospital and funeral expenses. The chips were donated by local restaurants and businesses including Sol Azteca in Georgetown.

“It’s been really touching to see how these businesses have been so willing to donate at no cost and so many people came to help out,” said Pederson.
