Cape has a great field hockey program

November 14, 2025

I have been following the girls’ field hockey games at Cape Henlopen High School for many years. They certainly have been a very successful team in winning many championship titles through the years. However, I have found the Cape teams through the years are not strictly about winning or even losing, but embody the principles of teamwork, exemplify good sportsmanship and learn about discipline with their actions on the playing field.

Overall, I feel the Cape team shows respect for their opponents, the referees, the coaches and even spectators who may attend the game. They also are a team who appears to enjoy what they are doing, laugh with one another, demonstrate unselfish behaviors on the playing field and not seeking individual glory. They are all involved in a sport that demands skill, strength, endurance and speed but above all epitomizes respect and teamwork as the pinnacle to the experience of playing the game.

Thank you, Cape, for your efforts in this past championship game against Smyrna. All the coaches, parents, administrators and support staff deserve an applause for instilling in this team good sportsmanship values. As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” See you next fall. Go Cape!
