Sussex council to meet Dec. 9

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Public Safety Complex, 21911 Rudder Lane, Georgetown. The group will receive a presentation from the Office of State Planning Coordination.

At 1 p.m., council will reconvene at the County Administration Building to resume its regular agenda. Among the agenda items are updates from staff on responses to council member questions regarding the proposed Atlantic Fields commercial development on Route 24 near Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, and the proposed Cool Spring Crossing mixed-use development on Route 9 west of Lewes.

Several public hearings are slated starting at 1:30 p.m., including one for the issuance of bonds up to $7.2 million in connection to the Love Creek Mobile Home Community project. Another public hearing will be held regarding new sediment and stormwater management regulations.

Delaware Healthcare Forum to convene Dec. 10

The Delaware Healthcare Association will host the 29th Delaware Healthcare Forum: Bold Leadership in a Storm from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, at  Bally’s Dover Casino Resort, 1131 N. Dupont Hwy., Dover.

The annual forum brings together hundreds of leaders across the healthcare continuum for a full day of interactive learning, informative panels and guest speakers. This year’s theme centers around advocacy and leadership through challenge and adversity.

Session topics will include the impact of federal healthcare policies, Delaware’s vision for health, and collaborative empowerment in the workplace, improving connection and belonging across organizations. Lewes BPW to meet Dec. 10

The Lewes Board of Public Works will hold its regular meeting at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion on amending the Lewes BPW Compilation of Policies to include penalties for introducing prohibited substances into the Lewes BPW sewer system.   See the full agenda and meeting link at lewesbpwde.gov.

Sussex P&Z sets meeting for Dec. 10

The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the County Administration Building in Georgetown.

Commissioners will consider final approval for the expansion of the Anchors Run subdivision off Beaver Dam Road near Lewes. They will also consider preliminary site-plan approval for the Willows at Northstar multifamily development along Route 9 west of Lewes, as well as the preliminary site plan for the Nanticoke Indian Museum in the Oak Orchard area. In old business, commissioners will discuss revised sediment and stormwater management regulations, and a request to revise a conditional use to allow for an expansion of an existing campground near Eagles Nest Church outside Milton.

A public hearing will be held for Springpoint at Lewes Inc. to amend the comprehensive zoning map for The Moorings property on Gills Neck Road in Lewes. The plan proposes the removal of six single-family home units, the addition of 21 single-family detached units and the addition of 46 multifamily apartment units for a total of 274 units within the existing residential planned community.

Cape school board to meet Dec. 11

The Cape Henlopen School Board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at Fred Thomas Middle School in Lewes.

The agenda includes presentations and discussions about several board policies, including those related to budget preparation, tax levy, purchases subject to bid, payroll authorization, payroll deductions, special purpose funds and property insurance.

The board will also hold a presentation and discussion followed by a possible vote on its smoke-free policy, and policies relating to food service and use of fleet vehicles.

Lewes architecture panel to meet Dec. 11

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Rollins Center.

Rehoboth streets and safety group to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Streets & Safety Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

The agenda includes continued discussion on committee priorities and a discussion on traffic concerns.

There will also be a discussion on consolidating seasonality regulations into two consistent seasons for parking, construction, Boardwalk and beach use by dogs, left turns and possible other issues.

Acres commissioner meeting Dec. 12

A special Henlopen Acres commissioner meeting will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at town hall, 104 Tidewaters. The agenda includes possible approval of the audited financial from last fiscal year, possible action to approve the comprehensive development plan and possible action on an extension emerging contaminants grant for small and disadvantaged communities.

Rehoboth planning commission to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will meet at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes the continuation of a public hearing on a minor amendment to the approved site plan for One Rehoboth Hotel, a preliminary review of a lot consolidation needed for the Belhaven Hotel and a public hearing on a minor subdivision application for 330 Rehoboth Ave.

Dewey appoints marketing secretary

The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee appointed new member Tera Keplinger as committee secretary during their Dec. 2 meeting.

The committee also discussed the progress of the town’s Buy-a-Brick and Donor Wall fundraising campaigns for the new town hall.

Town Clerk Kate Banaszak said thus far, the Donor Wall campaign has raised about $345,000 of the town’s $500,000 goal.

The Buy-a-Brick campaign, however is lagging behind, with only about 100 bricks purchased of the 2,000 or so available.

Dewey group debuts Neighbor Network

The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee recently launched a new community-building initiative called the Dewey Beach Neighbor Network.

The program aims to streamline communication between the town and its residents, promote civic engagement and foster a welcoming environment.

Two volunteer “street captains” will be designated on each block to help distribute town news, welcome newcomers and keep neighbors on that street connected. They will be responsible for building a contact list for their block and sending out the occasional notices provided by the town.
