Cape Henlopen Elks support Code Purple shelters

During the recent bitterly cold temperatures and snow, members of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 presented an abundance of paper products and coffee supplies, and a brand-new microwave oven for Code Purple at the Cape. This donation is valued at approximately $700. The group supports the men's shelter at St. Jude Catholic Church in Lewes and the women’s shelter at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth.
Mike Agnew, site director with Code Purple at the Cape, expressed his gratitude for the contributions and emphasized the ongoing need for replenishment of basic supplies. He gave members an overview of Code Purple's goals and challenges, and spoke of the continuing need for shelter volunteers.
With an ever-increasing number of homeless people seeking shelter during the wintertime, sites are often full to capacity. Agnew said the Code Purple program is actively seeking a third shelter location.
