This year, Quentin Durden, 9, of Milton participated in two Christmas bird counts with the Delaware Ornithological Society and members of the Sussex Bird Club.
Quentin helped count birds Jan. 3 in Area G, which covered parts of Millville and Holts Landing. The following day, Jan. 4, he joined the count at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, where he and his fellow birders were able to spot a western tanager.
Quentin has been birding since 2024 and hopes to encourage more kids to get involved in birding this year.
