Footprints in the snow help solve burglary case
A Georgetown man faces burglary and theft charges Jan. 30, after police say footprints in the snow helped identify him.
Police responded to Donovan Salvage Works, where officers learned staff had noticed missing inventory since December 2025. Police said staff followed footprints in the snow Jan. 26, leading them to some missing inventory on a nearby property. They then spotted a former employee who had been terminated two years prior who tried to hide before fleeing in his vehicle, police said.
Investigators learned that between late November 2025 and January 2026, Gary Calloway Jr., 50, damaged a lock and committed seven overnight burglaries, stealing about $5,000 worth of inventory. Police said Calloway often pawned the stolen products and sometimes used a deceased family member’s identification to conceal his identity to complete pawn transactions.
Police apprehended Calloway Jan. 30 in Ellendale without incident, and he was taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with identity theft, seven counts third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, seven counts theft under $1,500, nine counts selling stolen property under $1,500, falsifying business records and criminal mischief under $1,000. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $47,100 unsecured bond.
