The name of Charles Garrod, a 92-year-old Milford resident who served in the Korean War from July 1952 to November 1953, has been added to the United Nations Peace Memorial Wall of Fame in Busan, South Korea.
The wall of fame acknowledges individuals who contributed important Korean War artifacts to the memorial in 2025. Garrod donated his Air Force dress blue uniform, originally issued in 1951; an EE-8 wired field telephone used during the Korean War; and a pair of air-insulated boots known as “Mickey Mouse boots,” worn by military personnel fighting in cold climates. All items are on permanent display in the museum section of the memorial building.
Garrod also loaned them a scarf from a pilot in the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing.
Garrod was also featured in a book published in September 1963, “Young Heroes Who Changed Korean History,” which listed the biographies of 17 Korean War veterans. He continues to promote the heroic efforts of Korean War veterans.
Garrod is also known for creating and maintaining the Facebook group Korean War Veterans Family and Supporters, with more than 11,400 members in 112 countries.
