Sussex Academy volleyball back to .500 with 3-0 win

Seahawks 2-2 ahead of spring break, Delmarva Christian match
April 3, 2026

As spring brightens up the Cape Region, it’s helping the Sussex Academy boys’ volleyball team warm up to its fairly high potential. The upstart Seahawks moved to 2-2 with a 3-0 victory over Red Lion April 2.

There were clear skies for the Seahawks in the first two sets, and Sussex Academy capitalized on the energy from the bench and spectating track team. A 25-13 first set and 25-10 second set put the Lions on life support. Red Lion showed heart, but the Seahawks pulled off the third set 25-20 for their first shutout of the young season.

Junior Mack Lawson’s nine kills were a team-high, while his classmate Desmond Davis led the squad with nine aces, which included a run to start the second set, putting it out of Red Lion’s reach.

Senior Vito Barrone registered 20 assists, spreading the love at the net around to eager hitters.

With the victory, Sussex Academy moves past its win total for the past two years combined. The Seahawks are hoping their work will continue to raise the standards for the budding program.

They’ll be back on the court Tuesday, April 14, when they take on Delmarva Christian.
