Exploring the Ancient Baths of Antoninus in Carthage with the Gazette

April 15, 2026

William Stevens, mayor of Dewey Beach, and his wife, Janine, enjoyed a visit to the Baths of Antoninus in Carthage, Tunisia, this past fall, with the Gazette along for the adventure. The baths are the largest set of Roman thermae built on the African continent and one of the three largest in the Roman Empire. Being surrounded by the ancient stonework, built around A.D. 165, was an experience to remember.
