Seahawks boys’ tennis flies over Cape 5-0

The undefeated Sussex Academy boys’ tennis team made the trip down Route 9 for a match against 3-0 Cape, and when then the dust settled, the Seahawks were alone at the top of the unbeaten net. 

“Playing Cape is always a highlight in our season,” said Seahawks coach Lesley Eichten. “They have a roster of solid competitors this year. My guys played good matches today. I’m really proud of how they continue to grow as players and teammates.”

The first-singles match was won by Sussex Academy’s Jack Feinstein 6-0, 6-4 over Cape’s Nate Hoang. The Seahawks’ Jack Eichten took a second-singles win over Cape’s Sullivan Naden 6-1, 6-0. The third-singles match went to Sussex Academy’s Max Feinstein 6-1, 6-3 over the Vikings’ Cadien Juliano.

The first-doubles match was won by the team of  Kieran Probert and Leo Benz 6-2, 6-1 over Cape’s Jackson Hess and Michael Gordon. Sussex Academy’s second-doubles duo of Charles Bowman and Arjun Verma won 6-4, 6-0 over Cape’s DeAngelo Jackson and Ace Crandell. 

The Vikings host Archmere Friday, April 17, while the Seahawks host Lake Forest. 

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
