Cape undefeated ahead of marquee matchups
April 16, 2026

Despite the heat April 14, the Cape girls’ tennis team remained cool and calm with a 4-1 victory over Sussex Academy in Georgetown.

Vikings junior Kennedy Spath defeated Seahawks freshman Macy Wheatley 6-4, 6-2 to earn Cape a point in second singles. Third singles was a battle of sophomores, won by Cape’s Idha Molzahn. She beat Natalia Gatti 6-2, 6-1.

The doubles matches were a bit closer and had identical 6-3 first sets and 6-4 second sets, won by both Cape teams. Junior Courtney Kosc teamed up with freshman Riti Patel to get past Emma Feagans and Gia Berberian in first doubles, while Cape sophomores Mia Thompson and Madeline Ruffcorn got the point in second doubles.

Sussex Academy got on the board when senior Karina Lopez won a few impressive rallies and delivered some fast serves to Julia DiSabatino for a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Cape will host Archmere Academy at 3:30 p.m., Friday, April 17, before heading north to take on Caesar Rodney Tuesday, April 21.

The Seahawks fly over to Lake Forest for their next match Friday, April 17.
