Rehoboth in Bloom supporters hit the dance floor

Keepers of flowers and gardens hold annual fundraiser

The occasion was the fifth annual Rehoboth in Bloom dance party, an annual fundraiser that raises money for the flowers that make downtown streets burst with color.

Rehoboth in Bloom has 87 volunteers who maintain 112 planters and four gardens around the city. Rehoboth in Bloom is a subcommittee of Rehoboth Beach Main Street.

Cindy Lovett, who founded Rehoboth in Bloom in 2019, said this year’s fundraiser was especially important.

“We have a major soil project that we have to do,” she said. “We’re lucky that the city is going to do the heavy lifting for us, but we had to order 85 bags of soil this year, which is way above what we normally do. We’re hoping this dance goes well and is able to fund that.”

The volunteers will be busy pulling winter pansies during the first week of May. They’ll be planting summer annuals during the second week.

Lovett thanked Jill Shull, Diane Cutler and others for their leadership in organizing the event, and Mary Ann McKiernan for putting together the silent auction. Marybeth Harmon donated the trees and lights that made the room pop.

Rehoboth in Bloom’s next dance party is scheduled for April 24, 2027, at the convention center, also with the Funsters.
