Contest open April 15 to June 14
April 30, 2013

The Friends of Lewes Public Library recently announced the fourth annual Delmarva On View: Delaware, Maryland & Virginia In Photographs Benefit Photo Contest & Show. The contest is open through Friday, June 14, and the show's opening reception and ceremony will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, June 22. The exhibition will continue through Saturday, Aug. 31, with 30 percent of photo sales benefiting the Friends of Lewes Public Library to support the purchase of books, DVDs and other library materials.

The exhibit will feature several new subjects representing the people and places of the Delmarva Peninsula. Favorite categories of wildlife and history have been joined by new categories celebrating a range of activity across the peninsula. Entries are encouraged from throughout Delmarva.

Categories include Black & White; Delmarva Icons: History & Architecture; Event, Camera, Action!: Community & Celebration; Get on the Bus: The Delaware Bay & Atlantic Coast; The Golden Hour: Sunrise/Sunset;  The Good, The Bad, The Nor’Easter: Four Seasons; Growing Delmarva: Agriculture & Farming; and In Flight & Ground Patrol: Wildlife.

To promote broader competition, a professional entry pool has been added to the amateur and youth pools. The professional entries will be voted on separately from the amateur group. Curator JuneRose Futcher sees the professional category as an opportunity for the greater community of professionals to see how they compete among their peers.

"The Delmarva on View exhibit is a great way for the library to provide exposure for area photographers to the 500 people who walk into the library each day, as well as to build our members' and visitors' appreciation of the artistic medium," said Lewes Public Library Director Ed Goyda. Previous years' entries of more than 300 framed photos have meant not only art appreciation for the Lewes library, but artistic accomplishment for many photographers of all ages.

The judges are recognized as gifted artists, professionals and specialists in their subjects. The 2013 panel is composed of Pamela Aquilani, Michelle Davis, Deny Howeth, Keith Mosher and Marc Weinberg. They will have eight categories and two entry groups for their study and evaluation; the ultimate vote will establish multiple prize winners. During the show, artists' photographs will be on sale, with 30 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Lewes Public Library.

Entry fees for up to three photographs are $25 for professionals, $15 for amateur and $5 for youth under 18 years of age. Frames should be no larger than 11-by-14-inches (inner dimensions), gallery frame or canvas wrap. For a complete list of contest rules and entry forms, go to leweslibrary.org/photo or contact JR Futcher at 302-645-8829 or jrfdelaware@gmail.com. Entries will be accepted through noon, Friday, June 14. The judges’ panel will convene Monday, June 16, and winners will be notified June 17.
