Nurses sad at departure of Dr. Sehbai

September 17, 2014

Editor's note: This is the opinion of one individual and is not a reflection of the entire nursing staff of Beebe Healthcare.

I want to express my deep thanks and gratitude to Dr Aasim Sehbai who left Tunnell Cancer Center, Rehoboth in July, 2014 after working for six to seven years. Dr Sehbai is a very compassionate, dedicated, hard working and generous physician, and it was indeed a pleasure and honor to work with such a brilliant and noble doctor.

I have been a nurse for over 15 years in oncology and I have seen various doctors in my lifetime, but I have never seen any doctor taking such a personal interest in patients' lives, and especially when they are going through a tough diagnosis of cancer and going through the treatments like chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery.

He treated his patients with a lot of care and comforted them during hard times. His smile was therapeutic and his presence at the cancer center helped and comforted so many patients and families. Lot of patients in this community and their families witnessed the exceptional care given by this brilliant young doctor. He was very good in explaining patients different things and also very good in taking care of patients who needed palliative care. He won lots of awards for the most caring and top physician in the area for several years and no doubt was one of the best oncologists in the state of Delaware. His bedside manners are excellent and we all learned a lot from this young doctor.

All his patients are very upset with his departure.

When he decided to leave, it left me and lot of nurses at Tunnell Cancer Center very sad, and we were offered grief counseling. We wish Dr. Sehbai lot of good luck in his future endeavors. I also wish that the administration at Beebe Healthcare should have done more to keep him here as he was an exceptional physician and our loss would be another institution's gain.
