Disappointed at Dr. Sehbai's departure

October 2, 2014

Editor’s note: The Cape Gazette has received numerous letters over the past couple of weeks from former patients and associates of Dr. Aasim Sehbai who recently departed from Tunnell Cancer Center. The letters all voice dismay at his departure. The letters were precipitated by one submitted under the name of Tunnell Cancer Center nurses, wishing Dr. Sehbai well in his future endeavors. However, the Cape Gazette has been informed the nurses and staff at Tunnell were in no way as a group responsible for the original letter. We apologize for any confusion.

Disappointed at Dr. Sehbai’s departure

When I saw the letter “Nurses sad at departure of Dr. Sehbai,” and related letters that followed, I too needed to express my appreciation for Dr. Aasim Sehbai.

I was very disappointed at his departure from the Tunnell Cancer Center, and felt the Tunnell should have done more to try to keep him.

We know a number of medical professionals, and have a daughter who is an M.D. Dr. Sehbai was my oncologist for prostate cancer. The doctors, nurses and support staff at Tunnell provided excellent service during the five years I have been their patient. I saw Dr. Sehbai at least once every month for over three years, as he guided me through chemo.

Dr. Sehbai took a personal interest in my life, is very compassionate, he communicates very well, he explains things very well, he uses effective words, is dedicated, is hardworking, is generous, and he keeps up to date on current medical developments.

He would look up things on the internet with me to get the latest information, and showed me how I could look things up on the internet on my own. He even gave me his personal telephone number.

I know the staff at Tunnell have great respect and trust for Dr. Sehbai. I know because I routinely would ask any staff member I would meet during my many visits to Tunnell and Beebe their opinion of him and other doctors. Dr. Sehbai always got high marks.

We are all sad he is no longer with Tunnell, wish him luck and know some other institution has gained an excellent addition to their staff. Tunnell should try to recruit him back.
