Beebe offers diabetes support
Beebe Medical Center has started a new support group for people with type 2 diabetes. The group, designed to offer information and support to those families and patients dealing with diabetes, will meet once a month at Beebe Medical Center’s Diabetes Management Center, 32060 Long Neck Road, Millsboro.
Weight loss is the topic for the first meeting from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6. Being overweight negatively affects type 2 diabetes and the heart. People with diabetes are at risk for heart disease, so heart health will be the topic for the second meeting, which is scheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m., Feb. 3.
Beebe Diabetes Management Center offers educational and management services for people with diabetes. Diabetes educational group sessions are offered three times each month, and individual sessions are available as needed.
The American Diabetes Association-recognized program provides information for healthy eating, increasing activity, monitoring blood glucose, taking medications, healthy coping, problem solving and preventing complications. Education is offered in different languages with assistance from interpreters, and certified diabetes educators teach all classes. The latest addition to the program is a group session called Diabetes Prevention, which is geared to those individuals who are prediabetic.
