Battle at the Board brings CrossFit to Dewey June 13
The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach is known for its tried and true formula of fun in the name of fundraising. On Saturday, June 13, benevolence meets brawn in a CrossFit competition that will pump everyone up.
CrossFit is a popular trend in working out, and it’s gone mainstream. The rigorous fitness regimen combines several styles of exercise, including high-intensity interval training, plyometrics and calisthenics. CrossFit Wheelhouse and CrossFit Riverfront are poised to bring the heat and prove who is truly the toughest. The event, dubbed the Battle at the Board, begins at noon.
The Starboard crew will be clearing out the parking lot and putting the two gyms head to head in a CrossFit battle to raise money for the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, a charity close to the hearts of the restaurant’s staff. Keith “Toastie” Kirk, a manager at The Starboard who tragically lost a niece to childhood cancer, works hard to put together events for the B+ Foundation because it makes a huge difference in the lives of the people it serves.
Matthew Miller, a co-owner and head coach at CrossFit Wheelhouse, is passionate about using the medium he loves for a good cause. He said, “CrossFit has been a great platform for us to raise money for causes that are dear to our hearts. Helping people is what we love to do. Being able to compete at a venue like the The Starboard is giving us a huge opportunity to get the word out about the B+ Foundation, and the good that it does fighting childhood cancer.”
Last year’s event raised more than $9,000 for the charity, and this year, Miller is hopeful they can push that goal even higher. For more information on the B+ Foundation, go to bepositive.org.
