Haute Interiors hosts monthly design sales in Lewes

New showroom open final Thursday through Sunday each month
July 1, 2015

Haute Interiors recently opened a showroom on Coastal Highway in Lewes and is heating up the local furniture industry with monthly design sales near Five Points.

Bringing in styles similar to Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn, co-owner Brynn Byerly - who also owns Salvaged, the neighboring vintage and painted furniture parlor - said she opened Haute Interiors to bring tag sales to the area and better serve a clientele that was searching out hip, unique items fresh out of the factory.

While the showroom is constantly evolving with new merchandise delivered almost daily, the business itself is open just four days each month, the last full Thursday through Sunday, and by appointment.

When Haute Interiors is open, the stock of furniture and accessories are sold via tag sale, meaning the first person to grab the tag gets the item and often, these items are one-of-a-kind, Byerly said, so there's no backups in storage.

"We are just trying to bring something new to the area," she said. "Tag sales are really popular in Maryland, and are a great way to offer new, high-end furniture as opposed to antique, painted furniture."

With one design sale already under her belt, Byerly said the idea is catching on, and furniture is already flying out the door.

The ever-changing inventory is made up of more than furniture, she said, with accessories and imports from Indonesia and Mexico, along with domestic shipments.

Each month, Byerly makes trips to neighboring states and even travels as far as High Point, N.C. to scout out a fresh inventory.

"We try to stress the items are one-of-a-kind, so you have to grab it when you see it," she said. "There are no discounts; we price our stuff to move."

When she returns, Haute Interiors Manager Travor Payton said he proceeds to fill the showroom with help from Byerly's husband, Richard, who is a co-owner along with the furniture maven's grandparents.

"Brynn just picks a bunch of pieces and has something in her heart of what she wants to do," Payton said. "I just move it where it needs to go."

The June tag sale at Haute Interiors is slated to run through Sunday, June 28. Summer sales are slated to continue July 23 to 26 and August 27 to 30.  For more information, call 302-270-9411 or search Haute Interiors on Facebook.
