Metropolitan Opera's live broadcast of Wagner's 'Tannhäuser' set Oct. 31

October 23, 2015

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” at noon, Saturday, Oct. 31, at Cape Henlopen High School Theater. Please note the early start time.

The Live in HD season continues with maestro James Levine conducting Wagner’s masterpiece “Tannhäuser” in its first return to the Met stage in more than a decade. Set in Germany in the mythical grotto of Venus, renowned Wagnerian tenor Johan Botha takes on the title role of the young knight caught between true love and passion. Eva-Maria Westbroek is Elisabeth, adding another Wagner heroine to her Met repertoire. On the heels of his recent triumph in “Parsifal,” Peter Mattei sings Wolfram, and Michelle DeYoung is the love goddess, Venus. There will be two intermissions, the first at approximately 1:11 p.m. and the second at approximately 2:50 p.m.

Lunch from Hobos Restaurant will be available in the atrium of the high school starting one hour before curtain, and continuing through the first intermission. Estimated end time is 4:20 p.m.

In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings. This is the third in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of 10 dates of live simulcast transmissions for 2015-16.
