Staff and supporters of Home of the Brave celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 28 for a new shelter for homeless female veterans and their children.

The new two-story, four-bedroom shelter will be located next to Home of the Brave's current male facility on Sharps Road in Milford.

Home of the Brave Executive Director Jessica Finan said the shelter will cost about $400,000 and more donations are needed. Once that shelter is built and full, if the need merits, a second identical building also will be constructed on the property.

Board Chair Beth McGinn said she expects the facility to be completed in spring 2016.
