Lauren Nuttle, DPT, physical therapist for Aquacare Physical Therapy of Millville, is now trained to offer physical therapy for the patient experiencing difficulties with both stress and urge incontinence. Nuttle has completed the Pelvic Floor Function, Dysfunction and Treatment Level 1 Certification through the Pelvic Rehabilitation Institue.
Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. Physical therapy treatment techniques available include surface EMG biofeedback, electrical stimulation, manual therapy and exercise training in Kegel exercises.
Urinary incontinence affects many people during their lives. An estimated 13 million Americans suffer from some form of incontinence every day. Innovations in therapy have made urinary incontinence much easier to treat than in the past. Still, millions of people continue to suffer the discomfort, inconvenience and embarrassment of incontinence. It is estimated that fewer than one-half seek medical care for it. Physical therapy provides options to help gain control over incontinence.
