‘Rehoboth’s Railroad Era Theaters’ video released online

February 1, 2021

Paul Lovett has now posted his eighth video about Rehoboth during the railroad era on YouTube.

To view the video, search Rehoboth’s Railroad Era Theaters on Google or youtube.com.

There are already five theaters modeled on Lovett’s historical diorama of Rehoboth Beach in 1910. It is incredible to imagine that Rehoboth would support that many theaters during the early 1900s.

The city was rapidly growing at that time. Folks from Wilmington, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington had already discovered the inviting resort. Many built summer cottages in the area. Railroad service included twice a day regular trains and frequent multi-car excursion trains delivering residents, summer guests and day trippers.

The boardwalk was a dress up affair and the theater was just one of a variety of attractions and activities available to those folks.

The diorama is a multi-year project to re-create Rehoboth Avenue during the railroad era. It is complete from First Street to Horn’s fishing pier out over the ocean. Exact replicas of over 30 structures, as they existed on the Avenue around 1910, are already on the display.

The diorama is now residing at the Rehoboth Beach Main Street office at 509 Rehoboth Ave., by Grove Park. One or two folks at a time can make a COVID-19-responsible appointment to see the diorama by contacting Paul Lovett at 302-893-9391 or paul@pdlovett.com.
