Rep. Alonna Berry, D-Milton, was officially sworn in to serve District 20 before an Aug. 12 special session at Legislative Hall.
Berry thanked her family and supporters for helping her win the Aug. 5 special election for the seat vacated by former Rep. Stell Parker Selby, D-Milton, who resigned at the end of session in June because of health issues.
Berry won a tight election by 121 votes over Republican Nikki Miller to represent the district that covers mostly the Lewes and Milton areas.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the support I have,” she said.
Berry took the oath of office surrounded by her husband, two young children and family members.
“To the constituents of District 20, I know it’s important that you have a voice in Dover. I’m ready, I’m willing and I’m excited to be that voice on behalf of Representative District 20,” she told the packed House of Representatives.
