The 15th annual Jungle Jim’s 5K was a fast field of 305 runners, as the top seven athletes each clocked in under 18 minutes, a sub-six-minute-mile pace.
Darian Sorouri, a Stony Brook University graduate, was the overall winner in 16:20. He was followed closely by his college teammate Nick Cruz in 16:38, Enos Benbow in 17:20, Martin Rodriguez in 17:24, Ethan Ederly in 17:45, Reginaldo Hernandez in 17:49 and Jackson Hart in 17:56.
The second flight of runners to break 20 minutes included DJ Farren in 18:48, Lance Kauffman in 18:58, Mike Marciano in 19:13, Mike Sewell in 19:20, Matt Sparacino in 19:28, Chris Stanley in 19:30, and Caleb Bradley in 19:45.
Eve Hoffman was the overall women’s winner in 20:12. She was followed by Olivia Montini in 20:22, Josephine Ledford in 20:34, Kelly Tingle in 21:45, Abby Andrews in 23:23, Kim Geyer in 23:25, Elena Coupas in 23:51, Dianna Golden in 24:12, Mikayla Cannon in 24:13 and Mia Nuebling in 24:15.
There were 68 runners in the field under 20 years old and another 69 athletes 60 and over. That’s 137 at those ages and another 168 for all the categories in between.
Kim Geyer, a Millersville cop who wrenched her neck wrestling a perp, was female masters champion in 23:35.
Mike Sewell was male masters champion in 19:20. The top 15 masters runners all broke 24 minutes.
