Athletes of the Week July 25

July 25, 2025
Charlie Bramble

This 19-year-old from Wilmington was recently crowned Rookie of the Year for the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, winning by a single point. The University of Delaware student is no stranger to athletic competitions, as he played a variety of sports growing up, including swimming, lacrosse, hockey and cross country. He said it’s hard to put into words what winning the competition meant. He said the six weeks of rookie training was the hardest he's ever had to do. Charlie is no stranger to Sussex County, as his grandmother has a place in Selbyville. He’s double majoring in finance and accounting.

Jaxen Edwards

Following a strong freshman season in the pool with the Cape Henlopen High School swim team where he set new school and conference records, Jaxen topped the field of nine first-year lifeguards to earn Rookie of the Year honors with the Lewes Beach Patrol. Jaxen was already well prepared for his job on the beach. During the swim season, Jaxen broke the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle conference records. He was also a member of the record-setting 200 medley relay. His efforts at the conference meet earned him the Vince Morris Outstanding Performer Award.

Jack Meszaros

Jack, or Taco as he is commonly called, is one of four high school players in Delaware invited to the USA Lacrosse National Team Development Program National Combine. He is the only player from the Henlopen Conference and Sussex County to have received an invite. The Aug. 4-7 combine will determine the 24 players that will represent the U17 and U19 teams this fall in the Rivalry Challenge against Lacrosse Canada’s youth national teams and at the Brogden Cup against the Haudenosaunee Nationals and Team Ontario. Taco is a rising junior at Sussex Academy. He also plays for club team Madlax Capital.

Brady Schell

This rising junior at Cape Henlopen High School recently shined on the beaches of Dewey Beach, capturing the Rookie of the Year title for the town’s beach patrol. His win shouldn’t surprise anyone, as he’s established himself as a top-tier swimmer in the pool. Last swimming season, Brady won Henlopen Conference titles in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and he was a member of the winning 200 medley relay that set a new conference standard. He’s also thrived for the Sussex YMCA Tsunamis. In his spare time, he loves skiing, surfing, skimming and hanging out with friends.
