Atlantic Transportation Services team focuses on community

August 17, 2019

One of Sussex County’s more locally focused companies is Atlantic Transportation Services.

One of the owners, Chip Thompson, has a long-standing history in the community for giving back, and doing business with a focus on benevolence. When he and business partners Marlon Sparks and Steve “Monty” Montgomery of the Starboard acquired Atlantic Transportation Services, they went in with a community-centered approach.

“The primary emphasis is one of safety and customer service,” said Thompson. “We focus on getting everyone where they need to go, in a luxurious vehicle, while offering an excellent experience. Doing our job well enables us to be competitive, and then we can give back to our community, which we love to do.”

Since they took over the business a year ago, team members have made a number of improvements, including using the latest monitoring technology, as well as staffing their own head mechanic and director of safety procedures, Russell Bowser. Tasked with maintaining the fleet on a daily basis, Bowser ensures all vehicles maintain state compliance and are in excellent condition for clients and drivers.

They also hired operations consultant Kevin Roberts of Bethany Blues. Roberts was a natural fit, as he and Thompson worked together in the past organizing successful community fundraising events including Delaware Gulf Aid in 2010 and Delaware Coast Aid in 2012.

They’ve channeled that charitable spirit for Atlantic as well. Atlantic Transportation has worked locally and regionally with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Southern Delaware School of the Arts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make A Wish Foundation, Tim Tebow’s Night To Shine and many others.

Atlantic Transportation Services has a fleet of 15 vehicles ranging from sedans to SUVs, shuttle buses, party buses and Mercedes Sprinter vans. And they have expanded the type of work they do, which includes service to the military. Atlantic is trusted by the U.S. military to transfer service men and women to and from Dover and Norfolk, Va. bases.

Roberts said, “We work one-on-one with commanding officers to ensure that their personnel are taken care of. These types of transfers can be challenging since much of the flight and personal information is secure or not known at the time of a request, and many times these transfers are very last-minute requests.”

Whether clients are going to an NFL football game, a local brewery tour, need a ride to an airport, or any other local or regional transportation, Atlantic Transportation Services sets the standard for getting them there.
