Author to discuss new novel about Hitler’s rise to power May 5

April 27, 2022

Alan A. Winter will join a live, online conversation about his new historical fiction novel “Sins of the Fathers” at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 5, in a virtual event hosted by the Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books.

Joining Winter in conversation will be Lewes local Ed Ruggero, author of the Eddie Harkins series set in World War II, including “Blame the Dead” and “Comes the War.”

“Sins of the Fathers” is the sequel to “Wolf” and tells the based-on-facts story of the foolish British prime minister who undermined a coup to topple Hitler’s regime, ultimately saving Hitler’s life and paving the way for WWII. Winter’s thoroughly researched account tells the dramatic story of the efforts of German military leaders, career civil servants and clergy to solicit England’s assistance to bring down the tyrant in 1938.

Every detail of the coup was in place; however Prime Minster Neville Chamberlain dismissed the plans, instead meeting with Hitler in Munich and bowing to the dictator’s will. Flying home, Chamberlain announced he had obtained “peace for our time.” The rest is history.

Winter is the co-author of “Wolf: A Novel” and the author of four other novels. He graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in history and has professional degrees from both New York University and Columbia, where he was an associate professor for many years.
