Bayhealth team members fill backpacks for foster children

Being a foster parent, Bayhealth Information Technology Application Analyst III Amy Byron, MT(ASCP), has experienced the uncertainty that sometimes comes with a child being placed in her home. While children are met with open arms, families aren’t always able to prepare for the additional family member. Understanding this, Byron began collecting backpacks and school supplies to support foster children. Since then, she’s donated more than 130 filled backpacks for foster children in Delaware.

“At any given time, there are about 600 foster children in Delaware,” Byron said. “It’s an emotional time for children as they’ve been separated from their families and feel out of place in their foster home. Having something as simple as a backpack and school supplies makes a world of difference in making that child comfortable.”

Donations came from information technology team members and spouses of staff, and were donated to the organization where Byron fosters. Since so many backpacks and supplies were donated, other children in need have benefited from the donations. As a foster mom of two children, Byron was overwhelmed and grateful for the support. “It’s hard to put this feeling into words. I expected people to participate, but they really went above and beyond to support this cause. It’s been an amazing response, and I’m so thankful and appreciative of them,” said Byron.
