Blame for high energy bills falls on past, present governors
In a recent letter to the editor, writer Brian Howard says Sussex County government is the reason for higher energy bills because he believes Sussex County is responsible for increased demand for energy. What he doesn’t realize is our past and present governors want to make Delaware more like California, so they decided to shut down the Indian River power plant in February. That forced Delmarva Power to import energy from another power grid, costing us more money than it should have compared to running the Indian River power plant. Yes, the Indian River power plant was a coal-burning energy company, and I’m not going to get into that global warming BS, but why didn’t they replace the power plant with a vey clean energy nuclear power plant instead of a very costly windmill project?
Do you realize the life span of a windmill is 20 to 25 years if maintained properly? I’m 75 years old and that means we would be on our third iteration of windmills. Try to imagine the cost to replace those windmills in 25 years. By the way, they only produce electric when the wind is blowing and they are very noisy. You mentioned solar. That only works when the sun is out. What happens when maintenance needs to be done and the windmills go down? No electricity.
So, Brian Howard, blame the people you voted for for our high energy bills, not Sussex County.
