The 20th Annual Boardwalk Buddy Walk, which celebrates the lives and accomplishments of individuals with Down syndrome, will step off at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, from the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. The Philadelphia Mummers Aqua String Band will lead the procession.
Registration is free at boardwalkbuddywalk.com.
On-site registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. All members of the community are invited.
Walkers will return to the bandstand for the buddy hop with music and dancing, face painters, balloon twisters and craft activities. Nonprofit groups on hand with informational booths will include the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware and Special Olympics. Uncle David’s Ice Cream will offer free scoops of Hopkins Farm ice cream to anyone in a Buddy Walk T-shirt.
Preregistered walkers can pick up their T-shirts at the Buddy Up Party from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at the Dewey Beach Lions Clubhouse, 115 McKinley Ave., Dewey Beach. The evening will feature a silent auction, free food and a lively bar tended by Jamie Waple, who will be serving beer, wine and soft drinks. All the tips he receives, along with auction proceeds, will be donated to the Buddy Walk fund.
