Brandywine Valley SPCA sets mega adoption June 25-26
The Brandywine Valley SPCA will hold a mega adoption event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, at 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown.
Adoption fees will be $35 for any adoptable dog, puppy, cat or kitten.
The adoption event will be held at all BVSPCA locations and aims to find families for at least 700 homeless pets while intakes are increasing and adoptions are dropping.
“For us, as the only open admission shelter in Delaware, June’s warmer weather means higher intakes of lost/stray animals with nowhere else to go, along with lower adoptions as folks focus on end of school year and start of vacation activities. This year, shelters and rescues in our region and across the country are fuller than ever as adoptions slow down after record adoption rates during the pandemic,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO.
The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, microchipping, current vaccinations, a free follow-up exam at one of its veterinary clinics, and post-adoption behavior support.
Brandywine’s Georgetown location will also offer a limited number of potential adopters first access to the adoptable animals before opening if they register for a fast pass. Visitors with a fast pass will be granted admission at 9:30 a.m., an hour and a half before the regular shelter opening at 11 a.m.
Families not in a position to adopt can support the Brandywine Valley SPCA by volunteering at any of its three Delaware locations, including Georgetown, Dover and New Castle. No experience is necessary.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA has held eight mega events since 2016, placing more than 8,000 homeless animals in total across those events. “Experiencing a mega event is hard to describe,” said Linda Torelli, BVSPCA chief marketing officer. “Kids bonding with their first cat or dog, wonderful pets overlooked for months finally finding that perfect family, and the magic of watching that instant rescue connection happen make for an incredible, truly mega experience.”
