At 121 cars, annual Lewes show sets new record

Winners in the 19th annual British Motorcar Show were selected by a popular vote of show attendees at the Lewes Historical Society complex May 3. This year’s show set a record for the number of cars entered - 109 preregistered cars and 12 cars registered on the day of the show. More than 1,000 people attended this year’s show. Winners are listed by categories based on the age of the car with the exception of the featured marque and premier categories.

Best in Show: Dennis Morrison, Falston, Md.,1960 Triumph TR3A.

Category I, up to 1956: First place; Ian Robinson, Barnegat, N.J., 1924 Morris Cowley Bullnose Morris; second place; Bill O’Brien, Newark,1956 Austin Healey 100M; third place; Robert Gannon, Hockessin, 1949 Triumph Mayflower.

Category II, 1957-1962: First place; Patricia Marchione, Absecon, N.J., 1959 Lotus Elite SI; second place; Mike Tyler, Lewes, 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MKII; third place; Frank Angelini, Downington, Pa., 1959 Triumph TR3A.

Category III, 1963-1968: First place; Walt Lubun, Newark, 1967 Austin Healey BJ8; second place; Jack and Carol Schmelyun, Glen Burnie, Md., 1968 Triumph TR250; third place; Bill Tattersall, Frankford, 1963 Elva Courier Mark IV.

Category IV, 1969-1974: First place; Jeff Pulford, Rockville, Md., 1972 MGB roadster; second place; Richard Popham, Ellicott City, Md., 1970 Jaguar E-type; third place; Harold Dew, Fredericksburg, Md., 1974 MGB roadster.

Category V, 1975-1980: First place; Vince Lee, Lewes, 1976 Triumph TR6; second place; Suzy Smarr, Milford, 1976 Triumph TR6; third place; Jason Witter, Mount Airy, Md., 1977 Leyland Mini Cooper.

Category VI, 1981-2000: First place; George Alderman, New Castle, 1977 Caterham 40th anniversary; second place; Joe and Sue Schell, Dover, 1982 Morgan Plus 8; third place; Leonard Claudins, Ocean Pines, Md., 1995 Morgan Plus 8.
