Calvary Assembly of God announces Easter show
The Creative Arts Ministry of Calvary Assembly of God in Dover recently announced that this year’s Easter production will be “Our Savior’s Here,” to be performed at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, March 27, 28, 29 and 30, plus a 3 p.m. matinee March 30 and a special 10:30 a.m. performance Easter Sunday, March 31, in Calvary’s state-of-the-art sanctuary/theater, 1141 E. Lebanon Road, Route 10 and South State Street, Dover.
Directed by Dee Gleason and Terrence Savagel, “Our Savior’s Here” is an all-original musical drama created by Calvary’s Creative Arts Ministry creative team. Based on Isaiah 53 and set in the present day rather than in Biblical times, the inspiring story explores the continuing and vital relevance of Christ’s ministry and ultimate sacrifice to those living in today’s modern world.
“This show is totally different from our past Easter productions, from the contemporary music to the contemporary characters with contemporary problems,” said Executive Producer Angela Coon. “The drama centers around the power of the cross and our need for a savior now, today. We all must come to the cross - it’s about what we do with it when we get there. Some pass by. And some are changed.”
Audiences will meet a typical, familiar-feeling modern family, the Stantons, including Wayne and Norma, good people who can’t seem to find time for God; their sons Alan and Matthew; Matthew’s wife Amy; Alan’s teen son Brandon; and Wayne’s 80-something mother Edith, who provides comic relief as well as a Christian influence on the family. Adversity leads the Stantons to the cross, as the family struggles to cope with Wayne in the hospital, Amy’s difficult pregnancy and Matthew's job loss. Adding another dimension is Amy’s troubled friend Holly, who has two teens, two failed marriages and a destructive lifestyle.
Music includes the opener, “We Need a Savior”; two songs from the popular concert series, The Story, “Broken Praise” and “Alive”; Kari Jobe’s “What Love is This”; and Chris Tomlin’s “Our Savior’s Here.” The show also features two youth scenes, one with a high school music/flash mob feel on “Our God,” and the Live Jam Concert with R&B Lecrea’s “Rebellion” and Worth Dying For’s “The Power of Your Love.”
Featured players in the cast of characters ranging from 13 to 80 include Phil Frerichs as Wayne, Julia Cottuli as Norma, Karen Bacon as Edith, Josh Walton as Matthew, Miri Rose Goldsberry as Amy, Robert Rebeck as Alan, Danny Ortiz as Brandon, Rachel Tuten as Holly, Alexis Baione as Morgan and Brian Cottuli as Jayden. The cast also includes Kevin Staniszewski as Isaiah, serving as the story’s narrator.
Crew includes stage manager D.J. Buckner, costumer Bernadette Brown, technical director Paul Bell, set designer Robin Lear and music director Steve Woodworth.
Admission is free and open to all. There is no reserved seating. Doors open one hour before performances, and nursery care is available.
