Cape shortstop Joe Ruark throws to first for an out. After Polytech scored a run in the first inning, Cape pitcher Jack Simeone got in the groove and allowed just one earned run in an 8-2 victory.
"Jack did a tremendous job on the mound," said Cape coach Ben Evick. "The first inning was a tough spot for him. A flair single, walk, then an error to load the bases. He got out of the inning only allowing one run with the bases loaded and no outs."
Simeone went the distance on the mound, stricking out five batters while allowing just one walk. The victory is his third of the season. He also has three saves.
The Vikings garnered 11 hits in the contest.
Aaden Johnson, Max Selders and Trizten Willey each had two hits. Johnson collected three RBIs and Willey had one.
Joe Ruark and Dom Mangini each had an RBI.
"We did a great job responding in the bottom half of the first inning by putting up three runs," said Evick. "After starting the inning with a K, we kept battling out at bats to score some runs. With the wind blowing 30 mph, it can be tough to stick with your approach, but it’s a credit to our guys for doing just that."
The Vikings travel to Milford Thursday, May 7, to face the Bucs.
