The Cape boys’ lacrosse team moved into the DIAA semifinals with an 11-3 victory over Archmere Academy May 23 at Legends Stadium.

Archmere ends its season at 11-6. The No. 2 Vikings will face No. 3 Tatnall Wednesday, May 28, at Delaware Military Academy.

The Vikings took 41 shots in the contest. Evan Burris and Brenner Short each scored four goals, while Braddock Smith and Grant Conway scored two and one, respectively.

“It was a great team win,” said Short. “We started off slow. We definitely need to shoot better, though. The defense stepped up tonight and played great.”

Conway and Alan Grapski were credited with two assists. Burris and Smith each had a helper.

The Vikings started off scoring two in the first quarter and finished the first half up 5-0.

The Archmere goal pipe was hit numerous times by Cape shooters, with goalie Zidane Brena making nearly 20 saves.

“The Archmere goalie made some nice saves after our first two goals,” said Burris. “It took us a while to get going.”

The Vikings scored four in the third and finished the game by tallying two more in the fourth. The Auks scored two in the third and one in the fourth period.

“We started well on face-off,” said face-off specialist Mason Jack. “I’ve been changing up my moves to be a little different.”

“We shot the ball poorly at the beginning,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “It picked up as we went along. The boys did a good job moving the ball. We’ve got to be better shooters. The pipe had a good game tonight. Mason [Jack] was great on face-off.  The progression he’s had in just a month is phenomenal. We didn’t have too many bad mistakes. The shot placement wasn’t what we want it to be.”
